June 2007

Something seems to be wrong with Comet Cable. For a start, 2 channels (Star movies and star world) have entirely vanished.

Other than this the channels at the end of the list (Hallmark etc) are weak and both Natgeo and Animal Planet are almost unwatchable.

I spoke with their customer support who claim that they will have things fixed by monday.

Suddenly, Dialog TV looks very tempting.

Bah, missed the Heroes finale too.

For those of you who’d like to get Satellite TV but don’t fancy paying monthly subscriptions, the good news is there are some interesting FTA (Free to air) TV Channels available in Sri Lanka. Some of the channels listed here such as FTV and Al Jazeera, aren’t even available via local satellite operators, yet you can watch them for free, via Asiasat 3.

To receive Asiasat 3, you need a large C band dish (6 feet or more), and a decoder. Again, as these channels are FTA channels, you don’t have to pay any monthly fee to view them.

Here’s a sampling of the free channels available on Asiasat 3:

FTV
FTV is documentary channel, however, unlike National Geographic, they don’t document the lives of wildebeest: FTV instead focuses on hot models engaging in activities such as:

FTV girls
pillow fights…
FTV girls 2
..talking.. (yes, some of them actually can talk)…
FTV girls 3
..FTV also helps you learn photography too…

FTV was available on domestic cable a while back until someone decided to ban it..

NOW
NZ TV channel, sports, outdoors, game reviews and other stuff that NZ people are into.

NOW TV Nz

ARIRANG TV Korea
Korean TV Channel with stuff in English/Arabic (?), subtitled in Arabic/English

Arirang
(Do those kids look Sri Lankan? Yes they are: it’s a Korean documentary about Sri Lanka.)

CNAI (Channel News Asia)
News and a few documentaries
Arirang

Bloomberg
Stocks, business news, etc..
Bloom-wha?

Al Jazeera
News, views, documentaries, and more: Like BBC, just better
Al Jazeera
Actually, Al Jazeera is a brilliant TV channel. They are significantly better than BBC or CNN, in that they actually cover stories of interest, without the usual slanted view the first world employs when talking about third world countries. They also have a channel on Youtube, where you can find interesting stuff like this.

XING Kong
Hong Kong TV Channel with english movies (Chinese subtitles, english audio), and odd reality shows like this:

Xing
They do occationally show popular Hollywood movies.

TV5
French TV channel which occationally has french movies subtitled in English
TV5

DW-TV
German TV channel with excellent news, documentaries, etc (English/German content)
TV5
On DW-TV, all programs are broadcast in English and German, with alternate time slots. The programming is a mix of news, and documentaries with the documentaries covering many aspects of German life, as well as international content.

VH1
Chinese VH1, has a mix of Chinese and English music videos:
Norah Jones on VH1
Norah Jones singing the blues..

These are just a few of the 100+ free channels you can view via Asiasat. For the full list, go to:

Asiasat 3 also has many Chinese channels like this one:
Chinese Gone Wild

..apparently, when bored, girls there get together in their underwear, and start touching each other.

Impermanence
I think this is a universal law that governs all things that exist. By impermanence I mean everything is in a constant state of change. The world, the universe, our bodies and minds, nothing is permanent.

No permanent heaven or hell
If we accept that all things are impermanent, then there can be no such thing as a permanent heaven or hell (think of it from a practical perspective. If heaven were permanent, who would pay the electricity bills? If hell were permanent who would pay the fuel bill for all those fires? Besides thanks to GWB, oil is very expensive these days..)

As far as I know, our existence could be explained by the following scenarios:

  1. Karma: That we are beings composed of energy, that our actions create good and bad karma, and that good and bad karma affects us (positively or negatively) in this life and the next, to infinity and beyond. And that at the end of this life, our energy re-manifests in another life form, which continues to be affected by our acquired karma.
  2. God: a God created us, for 1 life, and based on our performance here will reward us with heaven or hell
  3. No God, No Karma: Evolution created us and we will exist in single (or repeated) live(s) independant of whether our actions are ‘good’ or ‘bad’.

Assuming we accept the karmic theory, then what?

  1. We could work to game the system: we could do good, while expecting positive results, and hope we don’t do to much ‘bad’ and end up experiencing too many negative results: this is called Buddhism in Sri Lanka. In theory, we could continue to do this infinitely
  2. We could choose to leave the system: go beyond Karma, both good or bad

Say we believe in a God..

Believe in Him, follow His rules, go to heaven.

What if there is no God or Karma?

Still makes sense to do good, as it helps fellow living beings.

What do you think?

Paris
(img probably copyright dailymail.co.uk)

So Paris is going back to jail, and everybody’s happy… except Paris of course.

I’ve always wondered why so many people hate her..

…here’s an old song of hers… from better times

..Actually the purpose of this post was to point out that most people are unhappy because they spend their time fighting and whining (when they have a good deal) and simply never realize how lucky they are…

…but frankly, who gives a shit anyway.. so instead of a long boring rant, I’m filling this post with hot pictures of Jessica Alba instead…
